Freelance. Mobile.

Freelance. Mobile.

Mobile and freelance  your business success depends on what ? On who?

As stylist running our own business be that as an owner of a freelance Business or maybe you are mobile stylist making house calls maybe you have your own salon based business but rent a chair what ever you circumstance, we often work alone. you are not reliant on any one else your make the decisions call the shots sounds good right! But you are also responsible for booking keeping up with the demands of your clients and for keeping up with training and skill development. As well as Marketing. Book keeping. Stock control. Insurance and liability?Lots to consider

Hopefully you are really busy and have a real successful business but don’t get complacent stay current stay connected with other stylists.

How often do you interact with other stylists, other industry  professionals?

How current are you?

How often do you look in that mirror and honestly say i need to step things up I need some help?

I feel stale I need a refresher? My bet is not very often! Your either to busy or it’s not important to you because you are busy enough. Be advised not addressing this on a regular bases visiting it and having that honest one to one conversation can in the long term be something you may live to regret. it’s so easy to. Slip into bad habits take short cuts take things for granted get complacent.

Even if freelance or mobile we are still in the business of offering the highest level of service technical knowledge and skill. We all need to stay current we all need to connect with other professional in our field. We all need to look in the mirror from time to time but often the demands of day to day life make this impossible. make that time reflect on your gaols be honest about how current you are. How up to date on products, skills, techniques However much reward working alone is it can also be isolating.

As stylist we need interaction with other like minded professional from time to time it keeps us and our ego in check!!

Why is this?

The skills. The techniques. The standard of service does not or should not change just because we work alone or in a small team. If anything they need to be higher if that is possible.

Why? Because of what we are offering that extra personal service.

Yet in so many cases the need the want to up date stay current gets pushed to the side, the key contributors to this are Ego and Fear spend hard earned cash.

In some cases we can and do convince our selves that we know everything we did our training that’s good enough! Some times asking for help seeking out advise just sharing with someone else can give you a new out look a whole new focus, It is much easier to do nothing than it is to honestly say i’m better than this i could be so much more.

Often whilst hanging out in my local distributor  mulling over the many different colour charts I end up chatting with stylist trying to decide what product to buy what might be the best product for the job in many cases talking over a situation a specific client issue talking a scenario through helps them come to a decision make a choice and understand what to expect with the process they are embarking upon. With so many products tools and techniques available to us it’s hardly surprising that we may need a little up date or refresher from time to time.

Be it technical work, cutting techniques, salon service and consultation skills. communication with team members, clients, other industry professionals, all we have to do is seek out the right source of help and advise, be open to structured critical comments advise guidance working with someone whom you respect and feel at ease with will help you to embrace this new exploration investment in your self take a new path to invest in your own future, market that product that is you!

Jobs change relationships come and go the one thing that remains after training is our skill both hands on creative and the ones we learn about people and communication about caring about being a team player. Constantly developing new skills staying current is so very important.

I also think that we need to always look at the WhyAsk the question Why are we in business whats it for? OrWhy do we want to go into to business what is success? Why do I suggest this I think by asking and exploring the why we get to the motive behind why we want to be in business what is true success. Why the will also help us to understand our true values this in turn helps us to follow the path to the success we want  and desire. It will help us to surround ourselves with the right team those who share our values and vision.
