New Look or colour correction.

When we are asked by clients about change how do we respond, when does change and or a new look become a make over or full on colour correction. At what point do the price rates change?  Is this change based on time, on skill set, clients wishes past history degree of difficulty?

Yesterday I spent about 3 hrs on my model she did want a change, quite drastic some might think going from blonde to a natural level 6 dark blonde. This was something we had discussed together  in depth during her “consultations” part of this  commitment to change was her growing out a healthy 2 to 3 inch natural root.

I would like to share this process with you.

For me this was not colour correction it was a thought out process, I knew before the model arrived what shades and formulation I would use and how it would be applied. I took the time to plan this service. I did not show the client the shade chart, I explained that her new re growth was our target but the goal was to maintain shade tone and dimension not one flat colour. she did not want to see warmth  “orange or gold”.

First part of the process was having decided on length to remove about 4 inches of old pre lightened hair, there is no point in colouring hair that will be cut off.

I had decided that I wanted to apply colour from the point of re-growth i.e. new hair demarcation line only not to colour the root so application would be from demarcation line down mid lengths and ends. I like to use Highlight wraps { papers] waxed not foil I find them they keep work tidy, very easy to use, they separate the different shades with out bleeding or slippage.

Application process:

I was using Techno fruit colour by “Alterego Italy”  with low volume developer being a non direct dye the peroxide is required to devote the colour molecule. process time 35 mins. My choices of shade were 6.32  “gold iris” 7.2 natural “ash” 8.32 “gold iris” you might think odd choice I did not want to see any warmth nor did I want to drab this previously lightened hair out, the full head was panelled using the papers alternating the shades, with the odd exception of waving out the odd section to retain a few old lighter strands. once applied as a non progressive colour I left it to process from the time the last section had formula applied.

After process time the papers were all removed they slide out really easily well rinsed and washed in this instance I used the Colour proof shampoo and condition “Evolved colour proof” supplied by Sweet squared

The final part of the colour process was done using a direct dye colour product again form Alterego “Passion color mask” a colour refresh and makes a great toner, I used the “Sabia” or sand a son beige with very little gold applied all over combed through waited 15 mins. rinsed off all done!

Styling:

The bulk of the hair cut off pre colouring was done with scissors the rest of the re style was done with only a razor. My choice / chosen tool. I brought the hair up to shoulder length and put in lots of soft texture, being able to still put the hair up an essential was a requirement both for work as a young mum and for style flexibility.

Finally blow dried using a couple of large bristle brushes this gives body and volume but looks quite natural using bristle brushes also gives the hair a healthy sheen. After 3 hrs a very happy client personally although a huge change i would not class this as corrective colour just a change that required though planning and that all important “Consultation“.
