Starting a new salon. Consider this.

What goes through our heads when we decide to embark  on the challenging journey of “Starting a new salon” having our “Own business” your salon your business your career  ? Maybe we have had a vision of this for a long time and now its time to take that leap forward if so great amazing. But are you considering everything and if so what oder of importance are you putting on key areas to consider to be successful for there are no guarantee’s.

vision innovation

How important is Location ? Have you thought about your Target market? What about salon services and pricing ? How many staff will you need to start with so you can function? Your team can grow and be developed as business increases.  All of this comes under “Vision” and yet often does not get thought about enough and it has to be! You have to have a strategy and a business plan to take you forward and keep you on track if your unsure about this get help, see some of our links. Training and support is what we do and the good thing is it come from experience. The experience of having done what your about to do !

When I  decided to go it alone start my own salon the first thing for me was location! Why you may ask ! Well for me I was breaking away from the company I was involved in and wanted to move to area that was up and coming one that my clientele was investing in I wanted to deliver the same services I was offering in trendy Chelsea but across the river in Battersea it was a risk  would the client want to stay more local to their new homes or would they still hanker for trendy Chelsea. The appearance.  The standard of service. Everything had to be just right. This had so far not been done in this rather run down area of London! A challenge but exciting  to be honest and fair I did know my “Target market” and I did know my “Pricing threshold”.What my clients would be prepared to pay ! so long a standards and services were maintained!

As much as the location. Image and look  were important so was  branding so was “Pricing” this is setting the bar for the services you offer whilst also attracting clients within the salon pricing  structure. With this in mind  you can see why setting price structure is so key. Now consider how  much damage  could be done having created all of this to then offer instant  discounts ! Whats would this say about the brand you are creating and indeed the standard of service that you claim to be offering !! Do no go down this path !!!!!

Salon business planning having a strategy is so key when you start and as you build your business and brand. I know when i started my own salon although I though I had all the tools in the box . On reflection I was lacking in some area’s and wish i knew then what i know and understand now . Take some advice get help in all area’s of management and business development take courses find a mentor. Have a strategy that reflects your vision an goals make sure that these care realistic don’t set the bar to high just keep raising it.

The Dance This is the negotiation and relationship you build or need to establish with your salon supplier the manufacturer you chose to work with. Who will offer you the support you need and who will best represent you as brand. This is so very key to the on going success of your business your brand and your on going marketing and planning strategy. Take you time over chasing the right salon supplier and right product line before you an your team

This is why I wrote the blog about having a“Vision “ Seeing it as a picture an then turning that picture into a jigsaw puzzle each skill each area of the business an management represented by a piece in your puzzle.  A picture of your salon .Business .Career. You can see that there is a synchronicity between Vision, goal, strategy planning, pricing target market on and on the pieces of the puzzle!

My hope is that in sharing these thought my own thinking process it may just help and guide you or at least make you think about what you want an dhow you are going to get it! What action you are prepared to take for success!
