Future opportunities in hairdressing

A little self indulgent. Following on from my most recent posting Hairdressing a career to have  as I write these blogs, post articles. I pause, take time to reflect on what next. Where will the next challenge come from how will it present it self for me or for any of us. When these opportunities are presented to us  should we take it ? Yes of course ! Its how we grow and stay current . What direction will my career take me in. What opportunities will arise. I trust that if one puts out positive thought supported with positive action only good can come from it.

As I have chosen to close the most recent chapter in my career or accepted the path I was is not happening  I now look for a new challenge one that will enable me to meet to share my experience but also to have contact with fellow professional rather than on line relationships for I am a people person our industry is about communication.

Building ones career is a little like creating a hair style step by step using ones knowledge skill the right products having some vision and creativity, Striving to make it work!!!

The questions I ask my self. 

What do I miss? What would I like to do? A hard one to answer to my self ? “No”. I look for things that will challenge me inspire and motivate yet allow me to do the same for others. My career to date has afforded me so many opportunities.These just seem to appear come out of left field and so I have to trust  an opportunity will come out of making connection and reaching out.

My passions being working with others, sharing the experience I have gained over many years in our industry. This could be being part of an . Artistic team. Offering support through education. Working with individual salons and hairdressers and teams  to improve skill and knowledge. I really think that the keys to successes are different depending on the individual situations and requirements. Working with salon owners to improve all aspects related to sales up selling retail through better consultation, communication, ultimately service.

If working with a salon and team. The things to consider are.

Relationships between. Owner. Management. Staff team. Image. Service. Consultation. Sales skills. Product knowledge. Jointly sharing that a vision. know your target market. Brand ,image identity.computer social media,

For the individual stylist.

Education. knowledge. Technical skills. Communication skill. Consultation skills. people skills.  Followed by goals, motivation ,inspiration, creativity.personal development. computer skills

Opportunities career direction.

Colour technician. Educator for colour company.Platform artist. Artistic team member. Salon manager . Salon owner. Mobile business or freelance. Successful salon stylists.Tutor.Sales /education.

Salon stylist 

Competition work. Photo shoots. In house model nights and training, product knowledge. mentoring, career development ,personal development. team building skills, communicator.

All these above are aspects of our industry. The things that all salons at some point need to look at, they need to address these to stay current. To keep up with the constant changes and demands in our industry.

With so many distributors offering products on line, having face book pages, being interactive with clients. Those clients being us the salon owners, the stylist.  The support required is both. Practical. Technical. It’s help and advise, access to demonstrations, education events, knowledge sharing. For me a perfect situation would be, to work with a distributor, to share knowledge and experience. Whilst promoting products through. Education. Service and consultation skills. This I did very successfully. Whilst working with a major distributor, doing platform work and artistic team work, all whilst representing a major colour company. It is my belief that education and sales go hand in hand. Sales funds education, education, stimulates sales. Through knowledge and experience.

At this point in my career  I know I fully understand how our industry works the dynamics of a salon structure, team development and training. We have to all have good current product knowledge and be able to explain and give reason to clients, as to why the service we offer and perform are worth while. That we are the experts. Experts who understand the chemistry of hair, also understands the down side and indeed pitfalls, that can be associated with, the use of some of these unprofessional store purchased products, be they colour or home hair relaxers. Having a good basic knowledge of all the different products sold over the counter.What they do. How they work. This is essential one has to stay current with these ever changing products and the technology they bring.

From a clients point view. They can only know what, the adverts and media portray. They don’t know or have the product knowledge, to understand what might happen. What the ramifications could be from misuse that’s out job.

We are solution giver problem solvers. The professional who’s knowledge is paid for because of the skills set we have .Consultation. Communication.Listening skills. Hands on creative skills technical knowledge.To advise, recommend, inform. This is not selling this is doing our job and the consultation correctly. Being totally professional.

Back to me. My next path. My Journey. Will it be. Education, consultation, sharing, promoting Net working, all of these are my hope. This is the way forward for me . Using all the experience I  have gained along with my belief in raising both the bar and indeed the awareness of issue relating to our profession.Working with and helping others to grow to be as successful as they want to be for it is in every ones hands. To make the changes to grow and succeed. I look forward to the opportunity to make this happen.

Pictures three days of  hair style that lasted a week constantly changing and evolving. Products, skill, creativity, planning,vision, Just like  a career one day at a time !!

This journey, this career, is wonderful – challenging, inspiring, and yes, hard work.

Leadership
Our industry is in constant change and is sometimes criticised. For lacking vision in some areas. However there is an ever growing body of professionals. That have a firm commitment to our industry, they have a passion for change, to raise standards through education and sharing. Leadership, education and team incentives.Will over time and with commitment give any individual that ability to do exceptional work and to be more creative. Leadership and management help create an amazing work environment for all concerned. So key for success for all concerned.
Conclusion
This journey. This career, is wonderful – Challenging. Inspiring and yes can and will be hard work. but the rewards are worth all the effort.
Thank you all for letting me share some thoughts with you today.These are inspirational, passionate, industry professionals.They have a vision. These are the people I want on my bus to learn from, share with, take a journey with. Get inspired. Connect with driven motivated industry professional. challenge your self. invest in ones /your self 

Are you driver or passenger !

 There are no guarantees in life and ones career and career choice is no different thing happen and its how we deal with them that defines us. Jobs change relationships come and go the one thing that remains after training is our skill both hands on creative and the ones we learn about people and communication about caring about being a team player. Constantly developing new skills staying current is so very important.

I also think that we need to always look at the Why. Ask the question Why are we in business whats it for? Or Why do we want to go into to business what is success? Why do I suggest this I think by asking and exploring the why we get to the motive behind why we want to be in business what is true success. Why the will also help us to understand our true values this in turn helps us to follow the path to the success we want  and desire. It will help us to surround ourselves with the right team those who share our values and vision.

Remember. Salon success. Stylist success. Business success are all linked together it’s Team success. Its never about any destination only ever about a journey taking the right people on that journey makes it enjoyable maybe even fun!
