Ultimate Salon Service:

What is the ultimate in Salon service:

Where would we be without our client’s? Our clients come to us and stay with us because we all are offer a high quality of service we strive to deliver an amazing experience. A service that offers an exemplary level of service to our client’s  supported by experience skill and knowledge. Its our expertise our communication skills our ability to offer solution that come together to allow us to deliver that ultimate salon experience.

Why do clients return to us time after time? I use the term Client and not guest why? Well for me a guest would be some one I might invite to my home for a week end or for dinner. I don’t Invite a client to come for a hair do they choose to come, for me a client relationship is a business relationship it may develop in a friendship over the years but its still business, there is an exchange of money for service. Never forget that the business /friendship line once crossed can become a very Grey area in the worst car e you can lose a friend and client!  Know ing this relationships can grown and develop and carry’s on year after year.

Your clients will help you grow our business they recommend you to family and friends?  Because when we get what we do right. When we deliver that special experience to our clients they want to share it with family and friends. Why? Because we made them feel special very special. These are the things you do every time your client returns to you. That interaction those personal things that define you, that you make you stand out as being Unique. Caring. Creative.Talented. We build relationships on trust an respect. .We solve problems! We offer solutions. We listen!

The way you are with your clients when they have an appointment with you is uniquely you. That special way you take time to listen and advise giving them that honest in depth one on one consultation is so important never take short cuts with this time.

This is the time we take to make our client feel special appreciated for this appointment our job, our goal is to make that client feel that they are treated and allowed to feel very special. You have an opportunity to do this to offer this unique experience to every client you have. Every day! But do you? Are you really focused on your consultation the time you give to it. Are you fully engaged? Do you give full service do you recommend products for home use for your client to maintain that look style and colour? Do you offer styling tips?

razor cutting

This can be quite demanding some might say draining, so remember it’s not about the number of clients you do in a day. It’s about the service your perform and standard of care and attentiveness. If you take care of and apply this to each and every client you will be busy and booked every day constantly getting new recommendations with very solid client retention and loyalty.

It really is that easy concentrate on “The service” ‘The experience” and you will get more recommendation and more client retention  new business will automatically follow. Value your time and the standard of what you do and charge accordingly value for money is a great job well done with amazing service. Not a discounted rushed job.

Can this go wrong? Can it start to break down Oh yes! When we get greedy and complacent this might be over book leading to keeping clients waiting, this leads to taking short cuts, this leads to client dissatisfaction not repeating the same standard of service all the time. Complacency can destroy all that we have created. We are all of us only as good as the last cut or the last service!

It may sound boring but find the routine that works for you with your client that routine that works from the moment they enter the salon until they leave having re booked that next appointment. My experience of this most recently when working alone was as follows. I would do the same number of people a day every day I would not fit clients in ever! This was always made clear in a first consultation of course clients will try and get you to fit them in they may say “But I’m special” remind them that all clients are they are a special! And as such all get the same special treatment . Then you can add. You see you cannot have some more special than others you have to all be special together.

make over

Remember this. If you fit a favored client in then some time in your day some one gets short changed kept waiting? I also had a 15 min rule later than that and you would have to re-book why? Well after 15 minutes the next client will be kept waiting or the standard of what is being done will be compromised Once clients know and understand this you have created a level of respect you will never loose clients over having boundaries and maintaining service. Just be constant

For the record my business was fully booked weeks in advance, I never advertised it was word of mouth only. My business was technical. Colour or Colour correction I only ever did three appointment’s a day I only cut hair with razors so quite unique never evenings never week ends all my choice in my own effort to strike a work life balance something important to me and quite challenging as I am by nature quite an obsessive person and can very easily forget that work life balance.razor cut full of texture

I was however also a platform artist and educator so had other commitments but always kept clients fully appraised of my away times and schedule for up come shows and training events. Clients love like to tell friends they have a stylist who travels educates what it really shows is that you are involved in your profession. Passionate. Creative, highly skilled and knowledgeable at all levels, do you have product knowledge do you have an understanding of the products you use, what they offer, how they work? With the power of advertising changing clients perception of Ammonia as the big bad and with the promotion of the word “Keratin” banded around as being in very product, irrespective of what help or advantage it might have, what concentration it might be in, what its derived from. I found found that few companies share their education and technical material with full transparency. Below is a company that I think does and I’m comfortable recommending.

Alter Ego Italy professional products are already having success in both the UK and all over Europe and its now ready to launch and be part of the Market in the USA. It’s offering all the things that I hold dear passion and commitment to salon training and support. It has the support from being just one part of a much bigger entity that is striving for success in the salon and hair industry.

The product line is very comprehensive offering professional products to cater for all needs of both the salon and the stylist salon products and retail support for the clients. Many new an exciting things are being launched and coming on line via there web site Alter Ego Italy and various social media platforms.

Why do clients move on from us apart form moving away. They start to feel that we as stylist no longer have their best interests at heart we have got bored or complacent. We are no longer offering creative idea’s. We have really fired ourselves. We have to stay on top of being creative staying current and up to date. We have to recommend new looks and styles and yes products for home use. Yes selling /retail. The same thinking can be applied by freelance and mobile stylist you are still client dependant you still offer a service you just have  different business model.

The products we use in the salon have tImageo reflect the prices we cage for the service see deliver.

This comes back to us know our “Target market” and yes it a main topic in my book “The salon and the S word”

Latest comment. Enjoying your book. A lot of thought has gone into this book and to be honest I wish that I had read it while operating a business.
The time and effort in explaining the target clientele was good as I feel that most people wouldn’t even think about it. Your subject with dealing with suppliers was very good. I wish that I had studied when working.
There were a lot of questions and points that I was not asking. My overall view of it is that it is well researched, and has good subjects and points. Currently I am on page 56. so lots to read yet!

I also think that we need to always look at the Why. Ask the question Why are we in business whats it for? OrWhy do we want to go into to business what is success? Why do I suggest this I think by asking and exploring the why we get to the motive behind why we want to be in business what is true success. Why the will also help us to understand our true values this in turn helps us to follow the path to the success we want  and desire. It will help us to surround ourselves with the right team those who share our values and vision.

Remember. Salon success. Stylist success. Business success are all linked together it’s Team success. Its never about any destination only ever about a journey taking the right people on that journey makes it enjoyable maybe even fun!
