The hair salon.

Designed for Salon owners,stylists,hair industry professionals. Created as a source to offer advise on all things related to the education knowledge skill experience. A place to share thoughts post comments and idea’s. As a salon owner are you and your staff trained to a high enough level. Do you have the skills and training. The knowledge and qualification to give you that edge in your salon in your business!

Why raise this question in a blog aimed at salon owners and stylists?  Thats easy its at the very core of all that we do the choices we make and take  the decisions we have to take that directly impact our business or team our client’s for these reasons we have to have to consider the “Why” For it is only by considering this question that we can seek out answers and indeed find within ourselves away forward one that helps us enables us to make the right choices and decisions one that allows us to live with the consequences of the chose decisions

My question is. The Why ! Is it important in all that we do ?

The salon. The stylist. The client. Is this the correct order of importance? Should it be. The client. The salon the stylist? You decide! Why should we consider this order if we change it what changes with it ?

Why do I ask this ? Well for as much I think for us to be successful we have to know what our values are. I also think that considering the Why ? Is key to making the right business or indeed career decisions.

The Why is behind motive it’s behind choice. It’s in the question we raise wanting to find the answer to. Why is one location better than another. Why would I open 7 days a week.

The Why is at the core the very foundation for the questions we ask of both ourselves but also others. This ultimately leads us to the decisions and choices that we make and have to live with. Part of my Why  might be the question. Why did I get involved with the education why have I chosen to write a book? My thought process would answer because i believe in personal growth and challenges. I believe in seeking out help and advice challenging my self facing fears and weaknesses head on . I believe in staying professional updated and current. I believe what they offer can could and will make a difference to any one within the hair and beauty industry.

As importantly the Why is at the centre of how we question others about their choices and decisions especially if they have an impact on us ! Again we pose the question await and answer. We have to accept some times that we might be wrong we certainly should admit if we don’t know or understand something, for it then opens the door for the question .I don’t understand could you explain Why! The above link was shared with me but i found it really interesting.

We all have to allow for the fact that we should never stop learning it is very important to realise that there is always more to learn. There will always be another Why? It doesn’t matter if you look at someone and think they’re the bee’s knees, those knees may well still tremble from time to time. That platform artist  that’s on stage or  that educator speaking at the seminar.

In a recent discussion a question was raised Why? Do efforts to make change often fail. This of course can apply to everything or anything but from a salon perspective I would have say lack of salon consensus, commitment, team work and collaboration. lack of transparency and open constructive dialogue taking time to listen.leadership.

What do we need to do how can we change this ? Here are some simple questions to ask ourselves

What is the outcome I/we want to achieve? (vision)

Why should I/we do it? (purpose and values)

How should I/we go about achieving it?  (implementation plan)

Time for some thinking and note making time to have some salon debate time to communicate time to listen. I am fully aware that this is not a normal hairdressing topic my goal is always to push buttons maybe stimulate thought and discussion maybe to raise the Why!  feed back and thoughts would be great.

The ‘Three R’s’ 
”Reputation. Recommendation. Retention”. 
It’s not built on that constant looking for new clients it’s looking after what you have! It’s investing in your self and your business and those around you.

Conclusion

This journey, this career, is wonderful – challenging, inspiring, and yes, hard work.

Leadership
Our industry is in constant change and is sometimes criticised. For lacking vision in some areas. However there is an ever growing body of professionals. That have a firm commitment to our industry, they have a passion for change, to raise standards through education and sharing. Leadership, education and team incentives.Will over time and with commitment give any individual that ability to do exceptional work and to be more creative. Leadership and management help create an amazing work environment for all concerned. So key for success for all concerned.
Conclusion
This journey. This career, is wonderful – Challenging. Inspiring and yes can and will be hard work. but the rewards are worth all the effort.

Are you driver or passenger !

 There are no guarantees in life and ones career and career choice is no different thing happen and its how we deal with them that defines us. Jobs change relationships come and go the one thing that remains after training is our skill both hands on creative and the ones we learn about people and communication about caring about being a team player. Constantly developing new skills staying current is so very important.

 

 

I also think that we need to always look at the Why. Ask the question Why are we in business whats it for? OrWhy do we want to go into to business what is success? Why do I suggest this I think by asking and exploring the why we get to the motive behind why we want to be in business what is true success. Why the will also help us to understand our true values this in turn helps us to follow the path to the success we want  and desire. It will help us to surround ourselves with the right team those who share our values and vision.

Remember. Salon success. Stylist success. Business success are all linked together it’s Team success. Its never about any destination only ever about a journey taking the right people on that journey makes it enjoyable maybe even fun!
