New stylist new salon new career challenges and opportunities: From service to consultation to business thoughts a review of my thinking of what makes a salon work what makes for salon success and enables a salon and stylist’s to succeed.

Time for Action:

WOULD YOU EMPLOY A NEW STYLISTS ?

What does it take to succeed when entering a new hair salon how do you become part of the team. It now seems only fitting to look at the other side of the question.

AS  A NEWLY QUALIFIED STYLIST WHAT NEXT?

You have completed your training been through college or an academy completed an apprenticeship. Maybe you are in your early years of working in a salon starting to get experience in being part of a team working with the  public getting more of an understanding of the service industry the service we deliver. Most importantly learning about people and understanding how to listen to them the art of consultation, communication. You have trained for this new chosen profession worked hard so why do so many new young stylist leave the profession? Quit, lose interest, become disillusioned or stay with it but carry resentment and anger.

Is it the fault of the training institution? Maybe. But we also need to take responsibility for choices made decisions taken. Ownership is so much better than playing a negative blame game. Have they prepared you  are you prepared in your self have you enough real time salon experience? Have you really embrace the challenge of training do you have the true dedication it takes to succeed. Although i think the standards of training and whats offered varies considerable I also believe that we are all accountable for choices made and should take personal responsibility for those choices we make and indeed live with the consequences with out blaming others If things don’t work our have the courage to seek out help and advice make changes

What next is the world really your Oyster ? Can you really make it big be that celebrity star if thats your vision ? Can all your dreams come true happiness, wealth, success? Or what ever else you dream of attaining! What is the key. Is it possible? I think with hard work commitment and realistic vision everything is possible. The one and only answer is you and you alone can either put in the work be honest with your self about your ability your passion. What you are prepared to do to succeed possibly excel above others to have that edge. Lets consider you can either blame others for. Poor training blame your self for not pay attention or be really honest with your self and enter into a program of self discovery and skill improvement.

We never stop learning. We should not stop challenging our selves and those around us. We should have a vision and keep focused on our goals. Constantly strive to improve your hands on skills lean how to understand what true service is. Become part of the salon team, embrace the culture become an ambassador for the industry for the salon for your self!  Are you ready to put ego aside invest in your self and your future. Become fully booked successful and enjoy your career get the rewards that hard work commitment attention to detail can afford you.

The biggest challenges new stylist face that can cause change of career comes in the first three years! Why is this ? To high expectation. The job is more challenging that first thought building up a clinetell takes time and commitment. Be committed to this process of working with the salon team to improve skills collaboration with others find a mentor. After training and graduation it is a sad waste of talent skill training time and money to walk away from this career before it has even had time to start. Be realistic about your own expectations.Be patient. Be creative and motivated. If things don’t seem to going as expected ask for help. Seek advice we have all been through this struggle to establish ourselves. With professional help and guidance you can succeed establish your self as a highly qualified expert in the hairdressing industry.

sharing communicating

It is so important when starting out to find a salon the is driven has a vision a place that offers you opportunity. One that will encourage and support you inspire you. One that has a image and brand that stands out and draws you in! Don’t settle for the first job ask questions. Yes you will be interviews maybe tested . But you should also ask questions it has to be a good fit!

As a new  stylist maybe you are struggling  to make a living get established bored, uninspired feel like each day is just a repeat of the previous one. If this is you then you need help need to have a inspiration goals target a formulation to turn things around and succeed.

If you feel lost need some help then is you should talk with other share in groups such as LinkedIn create  a profile!  Work with others to come up with a workable realistic plan to get you on a road to success.

Are you Interested. I would very much like an opportunity to work with individuals small groups or salon’s. In so many cases stylist fail salon’s fail through fear of asking for help and guidance don’t let this be you. Fear and Ego are not your friend fear is only a fear until faced then it falls away lifted and can move forward face new challenges. With over 35 years of experience what ever you needs and requirements what ever skills you need to improve on a program to work from and with can be designed, call it personal hands on help a sharing of experience.

The real keys to your success are you the choices you make .

Service .Consultation .Communication.Skill.Knowledge.Education up dates staying current.Being committed to the salon the team.Willing to embrace the salon culture respect the Brand share the vision and goals of the salon owner. Work towards becoming a important member of the team both giving and receiving respect.  Salon success is structured on team work collaboration to succeed we have be more than just willing to turn up expecting clients!

Success is commitment to training commitment to the salon and the team commitment to mentoring and being mentored. Commitment to the success of the salon, the team and for personal growth and development. Often we forget the the little things those simple things that make a difference. We lose or forget why we entered in to the world of Hairdressing, fashion style. We forget how to talk, to communicate all fundamental but how easy to forget. It’s time for a refresher !

The ‘Three R’s’
”Reputation. Recommendation. Retention”.
It’s not built on that constant looking for new clients it’s looking after what you have! It’s investing in your self and your business and those around you.

Conclusion

Are you driver or passenger !

There are no guarantees in life and ones career and career choice is no different thing happen and its how we deal with them that defines us. Jobs change relationships come and go the one thing that remains after training is our skill both hands on creative and the ones we learn about people and communication about caring about being a team player. Constantly developing new skills staying current is so very important.

I also think that we need to always look at the WhyAsk the question Why are we in business whats it for? OrWhy do we want to go into to business what is success? Why do I suggest this I think by asking and exploring the why we get to the motive behind why we want to be in business what is true success. Why the will also help us to understand our true values this in turn helps us to follow the path to the success we want  and desire. It will help us to surround ourselves with the right team those who share our values and vision.
