Beating the recession in the salon

Hairdressing beating the recession proof .  My  hope is that this is useful if like me you believe that is is possible to ride out a recession face challenges plan and have  a froward thinking strategy then we are on the same page and hopefully thinking about the same things that we need to do to stay strong and focused. You need to consider  and  plan for a long term future success for your salon, your business success your team one that offers stability and allows for growth.

One of the biggest thing that holds salons back is pricing. Not staying in touch with inflation not knowing your markets and so not pricing according to your market is costing your business a huge amount of lost revenue. Are you  scared to look at this most salon owners are but you need to. Want to know how to deal with it? We can show you.

sharing communicating

 The Service industry.

This starts with firsts contact be it on the phone or face to face the receptionist is the key to starting that client experience. From greeting to offering sound advice about services offered maybe recommending a specific stylist for specialisation if required. Product knowledge. Efficiency in all aspects of client care but also salon  day to day smooth running. A good receptionist knows how to handle staff has there finger on the pulse of salon and staffing issues. Can handle those pushy sales reps and distributors.

Receptionist has great communication skills has the vision to think ahead and see how a day is unfolding control things so they run smoothly for the stylist and the client alike. A stylists has to be able to communication and  consult with a receptionist they must also have the greatest respect for the key role they have and play in the running of the salon. As an owner your receptionist should be someone you greatly respect and trust as your eyes and ears in the salon.

Team work .the salon. the owner the stylist

Team.

This being the stylists but also all the support team trainee’s apprentices ect. They should all share the vision of the salon and brand created. Collaboration is essential for success one that allows for innovative thinking and sharing has open communication and encourages both team and self growth and development. A creative team who understand that value added is about offering new fresh idea’s being honest and respectful to clients at all times striving to deliver the best consultation and service delivering that total salon experience. A key part of this is feeling comfortable with retail sales and product recommendation An area that not enough salon take seriously!  In house promotions client technique education evenings product demonstrations introducing products. To more advanced  such as a special on introduction to a little it of colour maybe a Demi rinse application tone on tone with a complimentary blow dry endless idea’s.

Training. empowering your team/staff :

Essential in every salon for every stylist at every level to be involved with Why? it creates team spirit and sharing mentoring of those in training or with less experience .Clients love to go to a salon that is a leader in techniques they love to hear about shows and competitions they become a part of the culture of the salon creative stylish fashion driven Current!  As important as skills training so is personal development of support skills . Communication, consultation, product knowledge. computer and business skills.

Regular one on one meetings with staff members is a good thing to do building trusting relationships find out what motivate steam members so you can get the best out of them offer any support that might be required discuss issues that might need addressing, Such as dress code, appearance, time keeping, attitude, work mate relationships, personal goals.

Are you starting to get a picture owning and running a salon is very demanding being a real success and so riding out any economic storm or recession is having the right team around you the right strategy in place. Being willing to listen, being ready to make decisions some time stuff ones. Having trust in your team. Salon success and stability does not come from creating A discount driven market or allowing a culture of client discounting on services for any reason. A topic that we also cover in great depth how to look at it. What it costs you and your business. How to address deal with and stop it ! Are loyalty cards a good thing? Many think they are but like so many things one has to consider the incentive being offered and offset that cost to the salon. Or is investing in training to deliver the highest standards of service. The best consultation. The best attention to detail and the  delivery of the most amazing overall experience the best investment you and your salon could make for long term security business growth and stability.

You see being recession proof beating the a recession or slow time a challenging market is all about having the right strategy a developed business plan that works.  A willingness to make and take tuff decisions and ability to think ahead and plan. All of these skills can be taught if you an open mind and are ready for a challenge.

Vision goals targets.

There are no guarantees in life and ones career and career choice is no different thing happen and its how we deal with them that defines us. Jobs change relationships come and go the one thing that remains after training is our skill both hands on creative and the ones we learn about people and communication about caring about being a team player. Constantly developing new skills staying current is so very important.

I also think that we need to always look at the WhyAsk the question Why are we in business whats it for? OrWhy do we want to go into to business what is success? Why do I suggest this I think by asking and exploring the why we get to the motive behind why we want to be in business what is true success. Why the will also help us to understand our true values this in turn helps us to follow the path to the success we want  and desire. It will help us to surround ourselves with the right team those who share our values and vision.
